Artists Sarah Cole and Annis Joslin have been working with a group of women from BWC over the past six months on a weekly art project at Phoenix Arts Space. The artists (funded by Arts Council England) set up the project to explore ideas about how things shift in our lives and how we respond to this. How do we notice our own agency? How can creativity aid personal reflection and understanding? What does it mean to learn new skills and create artwork as part of a collective enterprise over time?

Their approach is to create a safe, experimental space for making, sharing and reflecting on ideas and feelings and this workshop is an extension of their practice, with contributions from the women who took part in the project. Work made has included large-scale drawings, performance, collage, writing and 360 video viewed on a VR headset.

Find out more about this unique project, see some of the work that has emerged and take part in some activities yourself. This will be an accessible and playful session, using materials, images and mark-making to explore ideas together.

You can also visit Phoenix Arts Space between 2pm – 5pm on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th March 2023 to see more of the work that has been made.
